If your website uses Font Awesome Pro icons, you can connect your Font Awesome account to your website by providing a Font Awesome API Token.

The token allows your website to verify your Font Awesome Pro subscription and enable eligible Pro icons. If you do not have a Font Awesome Pro subscription, or you choose not to configure an API token, your website will automatically use the Font Awesome Free icon set instead.

Before You Start

You will need:

A Font Awesome account with an active Pro subscription
Access to your Font Awesome account
Access to your website's admin panel

If you do not have a Font Awesome Pro subscription, you can skip this setup and continue using Font Awesome Free icons.

Step 1: Create a Font Awesome API Token

Go to the Font Awesome API Tokens page and sign in to your Font Awesome account.
Click Create Token or New Token.
Enter a name that will help you identify the token later, such as:
Website Verification
Under Permissions or Scopes, select:
Pro icons and metadata
A token without the required permissions may not be able to verify your Pro subscription.
Click Create or Save.
Copy the API token and store it securely.

Important: Font Awesome may only display the complete token when it is initially created. Make sure you copy it before leaving the page. If you lose the token, you can create a new one.

Step 2: Add the Token to Your Website

Log in to your website's admin panel.
Navigate to:
Settings → Features → Icons
Make sure Allow Font Awesome Pro Icons is enabled.
Paste your Font Awesome API Token into the Font Awesome API Token field.
Select your Membership Type:
- Annual — if you have an annual Font Awesome Pro subscription.
- Monthly — if you have a monthly Font Awesome Pro subscription.
Click Verify next to the API Token field.
Confirm that the verification status indicates that your Pro access has been successfully verified.
Click Save at the bottom of the page.

Your website can now use Font Awesome Pro icons available under your verified subscription.

Why Do I Need to Select a Membership Type?

The membership type helps your website determine how to handle your Font Awesome Pro access if your subscription later expires.

Font Awesome's licensing terms may provide different continued-use rights depending on whether your Pro subscription was annual or monthly.

For example, applicable Font Awesome licensing terms may allow annual subscribers to continue using certain Pro icons that were previously verified after the subscription ends, while monthly subscriptions may not receive the same treatment.

Important: Your use of Font Awesome Pro icons is governed by Font Awesome's current licensing terms. The Membership Type setting in your website does not change or grant any rights beyond those provided by Font Awesome.

Troubleshooting

My Token Shows "Not Verified"

Check the following:

Make sure you copied the entire API token.
Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the token.
Confirm that your Font Awesome Pro subscription is currently active.
Verify that the token was created with the Pro icons and metadata permission.
Make sure the selected Membership Type matches your Font Awesome subscription.

After making any corrections, click Verify again.

I Lost My API Token

For security reasons, you may not be able to retrieve the complete value of an existing token.

To replace it:

Go to the Font Awesome API Tokens page.
Create a new API token with the required permissions.
Return to your website's Settings → Features → Icons page.
Click Reset next to the existing token.
Enter the new token.
Click Verify.
Click Save.

I Think My Token Was Compromised

If you believe someone else may have obtained your API token, create a new token through your Font Awesome API Tokens page and replace the existing token on your website.

Do not share your API token publicly or include it in screenshots, support requests, source code, or other publicly accessible locations.

How Can I Tell Whether My Pro Access Is Working?

The Verification Status displayed below the API Token field indicates the current state of your Font Awesome Pro verification.

Depending on your account and subscription status, you may see a status such as:

Verified — Your Font Awesome Pro access has been successfully verified.
Not Verified — The token or subscription could not be verified.
Active / Grace Period — Your account may retain certain previously verified Pro icon usage under applicable Font Awesome licensing terms.

What Happens If I Don't Have Font Awesome Pro?

You do not need a Font Awesome Pro subscription to use Font Awesome Free icons.

If Pro access is not configured or cannot be verified, your website will automatically fall back to the Font Awesome Free icon set where applicable.

Your website will continue to function normally; however, Pro-only icon styles and icons will not be available.
